Lee Moor China Clay Pits
Large parts of the Parish are devoted to the extraction of china
clay. Deep pits and mountainous spoil heaps, all in a uniform dazzling
white, have lead to the area being likened to the mountains of
the Moon.
This
is quarrying on a grand scale, with vast jets of water washing
the kaolin into settling lakes, and giant trucks removing the spoil.
